On Tuesday, June 11th, the monthly gathering of “Uncommon Women on Common Ground” met at the offices of the local Chamber of Commerce (CANACO) to learn from the relatively recently appointed board more about the role of the CANACO in town and how it operates. The current board has been in office since March of this year.

This was the first time since CANACO (National Chamber of Commerce) established a branch in Puerto Peñasco that such a meeting was held in English and with foreign business owners (mostly from the U.S.). Those present were invited to register their businesses with the local CANACO, thereby forming a business community that mutually supports each other while being active members of the community that also help to resolve problems that arise.

For a modest annual membership fee, CANACO provides guidance and assistance in the areas of taxes, laws, and various payments. In addition, it offers discounts at different institutions and businesses, activities, conferences, and courses. To become a member of CANACO one only needs to complete a simple form, provide a copy of your RFC (Federal Taxpayers Registry), pay the corresponding fee, and have your picture taken.

By holding this informational meeting in English, the CANACO of Puerto Peñasco hopes to bring together both the Mexican and foreign business communities while breaking through language barriers for the good of all who live here.

The offices of the Puerto Peñasco Chamber of Commerce are located on the East side of the Plaza del Camarón, offering accessible membership costs for entrepreneurs, as well as small, medium, and large businesses in town.
